IDENTITY

Many artists deal with their own or others' identities in the conception of their works or bring it unconsciously into creative processes. The identity of a person is created by processing experiences and is constantly changing through external, internal and stored experiences. Many works of art do not initially allow conclusions to be drawn about the identity or the personal experiences and their processing of artists. However, if one examines the biography and motivation of the artists, new insights and connections often emerge.

The exhibition "Identity" shows works by artists whose confrontation with their own and other identities is formative and immanent for their works, but also highlights works by artists who unconsciously and at first inconspicuously include their identity or the processing of the same in them.

Some paintings or sculptures even replace the information or narrative of a classic self-portrait or portrait without depicting the protagonist himself. Through personal experience, physical energy and the individual use of different techniques, connections between artists and works often emerge that cannot be seen directly.
